Building Your Intercultural Competence
I created this course concept and prototype as part of a semester-long project for the Harvard Graduate School of Education class "Applying Cognitive Science to Teaching and Learning." The digital course carefully blends cognitive science pedagogies, such as conceptual change and metacognition, with the research on intercultural competence with the goal of preparing young professionals to thrive in global workplaces. I designed the course as a 90-minute experience with multiple modules that introduce learners to the concept of culture, its various dimensions, and tools for interpreting intercultural interactions. A prototype of the first two modules built out in Articulate Rise is available for viewing through this link.

Course Highlights

Conceptual change and metacognition are woven throughout the course. For example,
"PAUSE and reflect" moments encourage learners to take a moment to process the concepts and connect the new information to their prior knowledge.

The course features several opportunities for thoughtful interactivity, including the cultural iceberg exploration exercise.
